I think the way you put it sam182 was pretty spot on really, he uses it as a from of expressing his passion for what he is conveying, he's not just using it to make himself look big or clever, such as some rap artists do.

At the end of the day, they are words, and he is one of the few people that have found a good way of using them to express emotion.

Well that's my opinion anyway!

I agree with Maeveybaby, Start Beginning sounds so weird when they have to censor it, they've tried 'all that crap you went through' and 'all that hurt you went through' as well and none of them seem to have the same impact I don't think there's much more swearing than Half These Songs..., can definitely see how it would seem jarring to some though, it's not the kind of music you...

Hmmm..well I had to think for a second which songs even had any swearing in them! I can only think of three (Start Beginning, England Uprise and I'm Alive Again) so on an album of 15 songs I don't think that's excessive.
I had noticed that when they sing Start Beginning on TV they have to say 'all that stuff you went through' rather than 'all that shit you went through' and its just not the same. Not for me anyway. 'Shit' really represents bad times...

I personally don't see it as over-excessive! I mean swearing doesn't often offend me anyway but I certainly don't see anywhere on this album where Luke seems to be swearing simply for the sake of swearing, as seems to be the case with alot of rab or hip hop music. I think he swears to emphasise a point that wouldn't quite have the same effect if the swear word were to be left out.

Hmm interesting...to me the use of swearing in this album is different to, say, Eminem, as Luke's delivery gives a feeling of passion about what he is singing about, rather than swearing for the sake of it. It's almost like he's using it as an extension of language to express an extreme of pure emotion(as opposed to anger/hate etc targeted at one person etc). I do understand what you mean certainly, I'm sure other words could have been found to give a similar effect,...

great CD and some of the tracks I can't stop listening to. Call me old fashioned, but I found the excessive swearing off putting. I'm surprised that someone who sings about beauty and better world would swear so often in so many of the songs! Surely it is possible to be expressive and passionate without using language from the gutter.

I wasn't too sure on the album to start with, but once I listened to it a few times, and the lyrics began to sink in, enabling me to sing along, I loved it!

It really is fabulous

I'm a huge nizlopi fan. I waited months for the release of the CD and on first listen I didn't really. But the more and more I listened I just couldn't stop!

Start Beginning - Obviously one of the best off the CD. My personal favourite 10/10

I'm Alive Again - another good one. Whole song just keeps me on my toes...

Well here's my mini-review:

Start Beginning - A great opening tune! It had me bopping on my way into town the first day I got the album. A great song for a sunny day. I love the steel drums towards the end! 8/10

I'm Alive Again - Another great tune with a wonderful opening verse. It'll be a great one to sing along to at live shows. 8/10

Find Me - An extremely addictive and uplifting song. Not one of my stand out songs of the album but it does hit me...

I've know listened to the album and I love it, Part Of Me is on constant listening and is my fave song by miles I havn't heard it live before so I didn't know what to expect what from this but the chorus is brilliant.

Hi I'm back from my holiday and how happy I was to find Make It happen waiting for me

only listened to it once and so far so good, but my only complaint is like other members and that being the absence of All My Life, and Sorry, two awesome songs, I would have complained about flooded quarry but that is also amazing.

So, the promo I got off ebay got here today and have had the chance to listen through it start to finish a few times now. Have to say I think they've absolutely nailed this album. It takes a bit of getting used to as I was so used to the live versions I've got, the first few listens through sound a bit over produced and not "natural" but after a few listens you get used to the production and they're just as good as the live versions
